Apps Are Open!
Apps for Tributes are now open. As we only have a limited number of spaces, if we receive more apps than we have slots we will be judging them competitively, rather than first-come, first-served. Best of luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Additionally, as a mod note to everyone in the game: please make sure that when accepted, you have gone through ALL the steps to have your character added to the taken, district association and contact lists. We can't count up how many empty slots we have if we don't have everyone on the taken list. Thank you!

I know some people that are anxious about it so I'm asking for them.
And as much I do want to app Hiccup this time, I would hope that new players trying to get in would maybe be given preference rather than feeling like they're competing against established players. Like I don't exactly want to back down out of apping at all but I'd feel bad if my app was chosen over someone brand new trying to get in the game at all and I know I can't be the only one so I just wanted to know what exactly the criteria are and if people being new and trying to get in would weigh on your decisions?
And in general, I think the mods are good at avoiding favoritism but deciding "we're choosing that character over that one" is something that still can be touched by bias of even someone trying very hard not to be biased, so I wanted to know if you guys have a set thing of "we're doing it based on how well the apps are written as based on X Y and Z and here's what we're looking for." I think it'd be reassuring to anyone who's nervous about it to know what you're looking for.
(And just so you know I'm not making up imaginary players, the two who I'm speaking up for are willing to talk to you privately, but I'm asking here because I think clarification on what will weigh into that decision would be good for everyone.)

However, with such a limited amount of spots this time around we may have some slight judgement calls, depending on the apps submitted. We try to close when we get the amount of good looking apps that fill the slots, and reopen if we have too few, but obviously that is not an exact science.
At the end of the day of course any kind of judgement call is going to be biased, even if it is a community agreed upon bias. What we most look for is a solid grasp of the character, the setting, and the flexibility to make the two go together. We also obviously want someone who can use the English language well enough (though given my skills in typos, we know they slip in.) Generally all of us agree that a good app doesn't make a good player and vice versa, and we understand a great player may not be a great app writer, so we try to look at the whole package as much as we can.

I'll prod the two people I was talking to at this post. Hopefully that'll help them be less anxious over it since they'll know what you're looking for. And I'll poke them in your direction if they have any other questions beyond this. I just figured since I was comfortable asking I'd do them a favor.
Thanks for the quick answer!
