Arena Update.
Weird Weather
The Medieval period was a strange time, at least according to the Capitol. Tribute's better hang onto their hats as they're in for a very strange week indeed.
Mon/Tues: The Sun beats down hard, the air feels thick and uncomfortable as temperatures continue to rise over the two day period. Plants wilt in the heat and by Tuesday afternoon being out of the shade is an unbearable though. Any Tribute's who aren't covered in some way will find themselves suffering vicious sunburn. Luckily when Tuesday night rolls clouds roll over the sky, there's a rumble of thunder and a promise of moisture in the air...
Weds/Thurs: Except that this is no ordinary rain. Tribute's have probably heard the expression raining cats and dogs before, but this is raining frogs and fish. The heavens open Wednesday morning and intermittently through the quite ordinary deluge of the next two days Tribute's will find themselves pelted with frogs or fish, and sometimes both. Luckily, for anyone who tries, they'll find both are quite edible.
Fri/Sat: Mud, glorious mud. The rain vanishes and leaves behind mud and a number of steadily decomposing animal carcasses. Tribute's should watch out as this draws out and emboldens the rats but moreso they should watch their step, as the ground under their feet is quite literally waiting to suck them down if they're not careful.
Sunday: High speed winds are coming! Batten down the hatches or you might just find them, and you, flying away as the gales sweep through the arena. Of course there's an extra twist, as the winds are bringing with them some very unwelcome friends. Tracker Jackers are back, and they're pissed at being torn from their nests and flung into the arena. They'll aggressively attack anyone near to where they land.
Vampire Bats in the Belfry
The catacombs and towers of the castle hold a secret. Tribute's may have noticed the bats that roost there at night by now but things are about to take a sinister turn.
On Monday night bells suddenly and mysteriously start to ring, driving out the bats which have taken up residence in those locations. Driven to a frenzy by the sound the vampire bats, big one's, will wing their way across the arena in search of prey from now on. Usually they'll attach themselves to a sleeping host, leaving them to wake weak and unsteady from blood loss the next day. At their worst however a Tribute may find themselves mobbed by a whole flock of these bats which will drain their blood down to the very last drop, something that will happen with greater frequency as the week progresses and the bats become more aggressive.
The only way to stop this nightly plague is to find the source of the bells and silence them. More astute tribute will realise the sound is coming from within the catacombs, meaning an expedition must be mounted to traverse through these bat and rat infested tunnels that are also filled with booby traps for the unwary to destroy the bells. A Soul of Great Caliber
Within the forest, dawn breaks through the trees. The shining beams of light illuminate a moss-covered stone upon the forest floor. It would be unremarkable for what is sheathed within it's center. Mid-week 3, a brilliant sword will show itself caught in this stone, speaking of power before it can even be held in hand... (details in the comments below.)
Weep Not Poor Children
Children who took part in the Youth Programme will have gotten a chance to participate with letters and more, receiving up to seven possible merit badges. The number earned matches the passing days of the week and how long the youth can go before voices begin to call for them, the voices of loved ones calling them closer with pleas, screams, warm words, song, whatever will work. They will be drawn into the forest of hungry beasts and the shores of the sirens.
Those with only one badge will not be called on the first day. Those with two will only be called on the third. Those with three will be called on the Thursday, and so on. Those without any badges at all? Well, let us hope the adults around are keeping close eye on you, you're nowhere near neither shore or trees, or you've got yourself a pair of earplugs.
The source-less calls will begin soft for each person, increasing in volume and persistence with each passing day. Upon the final day, it may not merely be the youth who hear calls.
The Banquet Returns
As with the last Wednesday, the Banquet hall is filled once more as if my magic-- so long as one ignores the rag-dressed Avoxes standing attendant for the sake of the belief. Just as last time, they are prepared to serve their ladies and lords. But what's this? It seems there's less food than there was last time. Some of the finer things have been replaced with blander tasting food items and others are no longer there at all. Certainly it is still a great deal of good food, but with it comes subtle warning for the future. Best not to miss it! It will all be gone come dusk.
