Game issue, calling for player input.

I'd like to bring up a mod concern I have, and began having back when I played Penny. As you are all aware, the Hunger Games is a dictatorship in which the Tributes have very little power. The threat of death, torture, imprisonment or disappearing loved ones should be an omnipresence in the lives of the Tributes and even the citizens.

However, I found that in a lot of the interactions Penny had with others, the Tributes did not behave as if they were living in a dictatorship. I can't imagine most Tributes would be so willing to sass off the head of police in a dictatorship that holds their families hostage and kills people willy-nilly. I felt as if I had to spend a lot of my time figuring out ways to get other people's characters off the hook for what would be extremely punishable offenses.

This hasn't been an individual player problem so much as a game-wide trend, which is why I'm bringing it up here. The fact that this has been such a recurrent issue leads me to believe that it's a problem with the game mechanism or the setting, rather than each player. The mods have tried to raise the stakes with torture and casual murder, but it still seems as if there's some kind of disconnect where characters don't behave as if they or their family are at risk of bodily harm.

I'm curious as to how we can fix this, and if it's something about the setting that is not being communicated properly. As a mod, I do not feel comfortable responding to people with "okay, well, my character will kill your character, permanently" even though that is often the IC reaction from my character. I know a few of the other Capitol players have expressed similar sentiments, where they've felt in a bind between behaving ICly and not hamstringing the other player. Because we are playing Capitol characters who hold power over the Tributes, we have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to avoid godmoding the other character into death or torture, even when by all logic that would be the result. Furthermore, as a game architect, it makes it harder to walk that fine line between stifling all Tribute proactivity or making the Capitol seem completely neutered. As it stands, I feel like we have to neuter the Capitol more often than not, and either play them as soft, incompetent or weak.

Basically, this is a game problem, probably with the setup, and I'm asking for help in how to address it.

I only joined the Games recently (obviously), but I do want to say you've improved a lot on speed since playing with you in other places before this. Before, to be blunt, it was a lot like waiting on molasses, but now I feel like I can rely on you to do stuff at a reasonable rate and establish fun, entertaining CR through it. You're not the fastest around, sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing; you still get to stuff and seem to manage surprisingly well with all those characters. (Which obviously impacts things - I know I wouldn't be able to handle that many.)

This is less a crit and more a question! I was wondering how you feel about prodding! I don't want to bug you since I know you're having a tricky time with things and you're aware of speed things, not to mention I always feel rather hypocritical about commenting on such things, but I also hope that are thread won't be forgotten or dropped. I would like to do more things with you! Especially Clara, since I really hope to do something with that CR! But I hold back because I know we have that one thread still and you're catching up.

So! Yeah, this is just me looking for your standpoint and whether you're the type who is like "yes remind me about the thing I encourage you!" or if you're more the let it lie type so you don't stress. Basically, whichever helps you more is what I'm looking to do. =w=

I'm not very familiar with Bruce, but I'm constantly impressed by how you handle the contrast between Aang and Justine so well. Aang is wonderful - he's this tiny wise hopeful guru but then there are plenty of moments where something happens to him personally and his calm slips in a big way, and it reflects really well his struggle to balance being the Avatar with his personal life in canon. It's a delicate balance and I think you pull it off really, really well, and it's a delight both to watch him and to interact with him.

Justine, meanwhile, is just so deliciously twisted. I'm only barely familiar with the Amnesia mod she's from, but she seems pretty well in line with how fucked up that was. Watching the wheels turn in her head about how she can turn something to her advantage and twist the knife in whoever she's talking to at the same time is wonderful, and I'm seriously looking forward to how Kankri's CR with her is going to pan out in awful ways moving forward.

Since my last HMD I've been trying to make efforts to keep tagging up to speed. I've made a system of a week long rule, in which I can let tags sit for a week max and if time extends past that, I will message you (the player) to say it isn't dropped. I've yet to have to do this once so I hope that's a good sign.

Beyond that, there are a lot of character changes currently in progress, such as his avoxing which may blur the ICness a bit, but I am hoping that things, especially things leading up to it, are at least recognizable as being IC despite changes from the course of a year in game.

I am still working on doing better with typos. As well, I am still looking to work on plans with rebellion which have admittedly been on the back burner this last round, but will be coming up again soon. Other than that, I can't think of anything much? Feel free to come at me. Also if you wish not to be tagged by him at all you can say so here (or in my journal's HMD) and of course, if you need a "translation" for anything he says I am open with being messaged at any time.

I can't really crit anyone on speed but I still want to say that you've gotten really consistent with it and it's wonderful to see. I can always expect a quick turn around on Fritz tags which is great because I'm in love with GHB and what you do with him.

Additionally, you do a very good job of making avox threads interactive and I appreciate that.

I find your character very interesting (enough that I kinda wanna try the series) but something I've found when tagging with you or reading your threads with others is that it seems details from action-packed or fight tags you respond to are lost in the response.

It can be very frustrating to set something up and have it completely glossed over or disregarded in the response, sometimes to the point of it looking like godmoding. Please try and read the tag before yours to make sure you're responding to what's up in the action tag and if something needs clarified, I'm sure muns wouldn't mind an ooc question. I certainly wouldn't.

That said, I really enjoy how you play Nasir in general and I look forward to where his CR with Albert might go.

How am I doing with Sollux?

I know for one that I should branch out more with him. That's one of the harder things of playing him, but one I'm definitely aware of. Part of it's just getting settled in the game, so I'm hoping to do a bit better now that he's out of the arena and events within it have given him reasons to seek out people/information/etc. I've also been a bit slow/touch and go with motivation, which was a general thing not wholly localized to this game. I'm doing better now, I think, but go ahead and give me your thoughts if you have 'em.

So, obviously I've only had one thread with Sollux, but from what I saw there and from what I've seen around I like what you're doing with him. You recognize that his brand of 'bipolar' is more of a hollywood version of it which is very important to me personally and you're not afraid to have him have a mood swing and take the thread in a completely new direction. I definitely look forward to playing with him more and hopefully getting these two off on a better foot (or a worse one, who knows, I think I'd enjoy either option).

I've kinda had trouble trying to plot with you. Not wholly your fault, mind! My own motivation was funky earlier which helped nothing, and I didn't expect things to happen right away when you injured your shoulder since recovery comes first. (Hope you're feeling better too!)

More the thing is I'm not sure when you're up for plotting? I ask now and then and words are made about figuring something out when you have time, but then not followed up on, so I've been left wondering.

So, I've really only ever stalked your threads apart from the one thread we did with Cecil and Meg (which I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm sorry it didn't go anywhere else) but every thread of yours I read, I've enjoyed. I'm fairly canon-blind to WTNV, but you're always consistent with thim and his thought process and his motivations and you make him very intriguing to read. (Even as an avox, I know you expressed concern about that on plurk a few times.)

First, I'm super happy to have you and Belle in the game. I've always loved her, and I fully expect amazing things from her.

That said, in tags sometimes your Belle dialogue feels disjointed. It's clear what you're trying to say, but it does make replying harder. My suggestion would be to maybe take a minute to proofread the tags, maybe read them aloud, and make sure the dialogue feels natural.

Unsure if anyone else has noticed this or if it was just an off day, but I figured I'd mention it, since it was affecting my speed tagging you.

For those of you not in the know, I had some pretty serious mental health shit going on for a while, and couldn't really find it in me to rp much at all. I hope I've been improving on that since this Arena started, but I know I'm not doing fantastically well - I have days when I'm on the ball and then days when I do nothing and there's not much in between.

I also appreciate that Kankri is significantly different from his canon portrayal due to 1) his canon point and 2) his time - coming up on a year - in the Games. I hope he comes off as being young enough that having very different life experiences is pushing him in a different direction while still being Kankri, but I'd love to hear feedback on how you think I'm handling him! There's also an HMD on his journal where you can talk to me about it privately, if you'd prefer.

Seriously, though, I feel like your communication with RP partners has really improved, even though we should totally talk more (that's largely on me, I've been quiet on AIM since stuff with my dad went down). Kankri is, of course, one of my favorite babies and I adore our CR, and right now he's keeping V from completely losing her shit. More than that, though, I really enjoy just stalking what Kankri's doing in the Arena, and have loved his threads with Aang and Cecil so far.

Ooh boy. I'm really sorry for my tag pace lately, I just started my last year at uni and I still haven't quite found a schedule that works for me. It's no excuse, but I will try and improve as the semester goes on.

As for Sigma, please let me know how I'm doing with him. Since coming out as a pro-Capitol, I know he hasn't been the easiest to play with since there are characters that would ICly avoid a person like that. That said, is he an interesting character to play with? Am I giving you enough to work with? Does his awkwardness come off naturally? Have I got the right balance of being evil on the outside, but soft on the inside? Any questions in general? Please let me know!

As I've said before, while your pace may be one of the slower ones in the game, I still think everything else you and Sigma bring to the table makes every tag absolutely worth waiting for. You're always open and willing to plot and your willingness to go there with negative CR is really cool.

I've always found that sort of thing difficult, where it comes to "good" characters anyway, but you made it really easy and a very enjoyable experience with Wyatt and Sigma. Thank you for that. c:

So just my three boys (metalicarus, baaarbie, hollowvictor) and all of them have their own HMDs in their journals.

I've been trying to get Jet out there more and tag around with him as I know I sometimes have trouble with that and I feel like he's been a lot more active recently which is good. Hopefully he's also been entertaining for people to thread with because that was another thing I've been worried about.

Barbie's activity has suffered, however, to the point I'm sure people didn't even realize he was still around. I've been having a hard time finding ways to get him out there when he's not a tribute and most posts are built more for tributes responding to them, on top of also trying not to be outwardly pro-rebellion. I'd love some ideas, if anyone has them.

Aaand Panem!Bucky hasn't intro'd yet, so idk if anyone has anything to say about him, but if you do, feel free to let me know!

Well, personally, I love Jet and I love our CR and I love how rich the tags you give me are. If I'm slow tagging you back sometimes, it's because I'm sitting there in front of my computer stroking my chin at how to match what you just gave me.

The only thing I want to call attention to is that you sometimes start referring to characters by epithets (calling Jet "the blond" or "the American", for example) and that can be a little confusing when in a situation where nationality or haircolor has nothing to do with the conversation at hand.

I think that you've been doing a really great job lately capitalizing on any opportunities the mods throw your way to have Shep do stuff and be a badass, which is really encouraging and makes Shep fun to stalk. She's a really interesting character and you're not afraid to show the ugly side of her along with the cool parts, which makes her very engaging.

I also really appreciate how engaged you are on plurk!

I do have a small concern though: sometimes it can seem like Shep's hatred or disdain for other characters can feel a bit like OOC bleed? Like, I can't tell if Shep just really hates Venus or if you as a player think Venus is an awful person/character, and that makes me a little paranoid that I'm Doing Things Wrong that I'm not aware, because the hate can seem a little overblown. However, this could entirely be just me being paranoid.

Dee - Wyatt Earp, Albert Wesker

Things kind of dipped for me a bit over the summer for a variety of reasons (an uptick at work, Wyatt and Wesker both out of the arena, close CR unavailable), and I feel awful about it. If anyone has had any problems with me or my tagging speed or availability, I'm very sorry. It was absolutely not anything personal.

That said, Wyatt's off to 13 now, so that will more or less force me to focus on Wesker a bit more. Fingers crossed he makes it easy. ;p (Super Villains be hard yo.) To whit, if anyone has any complaints or questions or concerns, about Wesker, please let me know.

Wyatt too, of course, he just won't be as much of a worry anymore.
