Ian Chesterton plot

I have a mod-approved plot going on with Ian Chesterton and it needs people to help with it.

He's been not happy about what's going on and being forced to fight in the arena and not always keeping his mouth shut about it. It all culminated in him setting himself on fire at the start of the last arena, which didn't go down well, funnily enough. So they recently took him off, gave him a nice bit of torture. It just had the slight problem of not working on someone willing to do things like set themselves on fire.


Of course the capitol have other ways of getting to him, so what is roughly going to happen is:
- the capitol grab someone else instead and get them to do an appeal broadcast to the Tribute tower to get Ian to toe the line to save them from torture.

- Ian, being all heroic, and thinking they're being held in the same place he was, plans a rescue mission

- the rescue mission fails

- the captured person is released (with a bit of torture beforehand)

- the capitol punish everyone involved in the rescue mission by giving them burns, but doesn't do anything to Ian


What I need volunteers for are:
- Someone to be captured and tortured. Almost anyone will work for this - Ian will be obviously upset if it's someone he knows, but just as angry if they've used someone he doesn't. Whoever it ends up being can decide on the torture and how much to play out/handwave.

- People to help with the rescue. They also don't need to be anyone Ian knows - we can either handwave that they've met or that he's asked someone he trusts and they've opted out but suggested someone they trust. Ideally it needs to be a small group of people to head to the torture chamber (because I don't think I can handle something big), but it could also use people to create a diversion.


Please reply to the relevant thread below. If there's more than one volunteer to be captured I'll choose randomly on Friday 28th March.
Edit: Ian G has ended up being the lucky victim. This doesn't stop people volunteering for the rescue mission!

Also consider this a plotting post for the rescue team(s) so we can all work out roughly what we're going to do.

This will all happen after the crowning, at the same time as the mini-arena.

I'm very tempted to throw Albert into the rescue, but I have tech this weekend and into the coming week, which means my tagging will be non-existent on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th and very slow for the first week of April.

I totally understand that it can be frustrating to deal with slow tagging for a plot like this, so I just wanted to check in beforehand and see if it would be a problem before I decide if I'll throw a German at you. Please feel free to be honest, I absolutely won't be offended if you don't want someone slowing everything down.

I think this weekend will still be plotting, given that what people will do depends a bit on who's captured, and I don't want to plot every single thing out in advance because that makes playing it boring.

In terms of next week I suppose it depends on how slow slow is in comparison to how fast the thread(s) go, which obviously we can't tell in advance.

If you can think of something for Albert to do in the rescue that won't involve him much at the start, then that should allow you to join in once you have more time.

I would be interested. It'll be up to the person who's captured as to whether they want to play it out, but the two of you can work that out between you and thread it whenever you want.

I'd be up for threading some torture with Ian if you'd like to start late and backdate it (I seem to have a lot of threads going on at the moment, so I don't really want to start more too soon).

[All the televisions in the city are dedicated to the mini arena. Replaying deaths when things are quiet, following those reaped and their race to collect all the tokens before the time runs out.

But in the tribute tower a different image interupts the constant footage of the arena. Ian's face is neutral, though anyone who knows him will note the fear in his eyes.]

[His eyes flicker off screen and there is the smallest flinch before he takes a breath and continues]

Whilst watching the current arena please take note how the Tributes fight and struggle, each taking part and honouring these sacred games. [They aren't Ian's words and it's obvious he thinks they are stupid] It is an example that you should follow in the future, you have been brought here to kill and to die when it suits those watching, not on your own terms and definitely not by your own hands.

As a tribute you are given everything you could possibly need, yet it is felt like you need reminded that it can all be taken away..

You might not care what happens to you, which is why it was felt a stronger message was needed.

[Ian's eyes flicker to the side again for a moment before facing the camera once more. He tries for a smile, it's more like a grimace]

I thought I told you to lay low. You're rubbish at following instructions, seriously you need to start doing what they say. I don't know if they took anyone else... Shit...

[He looks like he isn't sure whether to talk again or cry but eventually words come] They say they won't actually hurt me if you start behaving...

That is awesome. You just have a typo and an extra full stop in yet it is felt like you need reminded that it can all be taken away...

I really hate that Dreamwidth puts all notifs through the inbox, so ignore it completely and therefore don't really use PMs.

If you'd like to put that up at some point, then I'll follow it with a post for the plotters. I'm probably do a plotting post then a rescue post. I haven't decided whether an aftermath post is worth it, but you can obviously do one for Ian G.

Seconded: if Carlos isn't the captured one he'll join in the rescue. I thought long and hard about whether he would, and settled on yes, he's mad enough at the Capitol to get involved.

Since Ian G was randomly chosen as the captured person, that leaves 7 people on the rescue, plus one to plan. If anyone else wants to volunteer they still can.

It all depends on what people want to do and how much they want to thread out. We could have an IC plotting post, but they're not going to be able to all plot in one group because that'll make it too obvious what is going on. Which will make the threading easier if people plot in small(er) groups and go between threads.

With the rescue mission, that's probably going to work best in small groups, so they can take different routes there, and everyone can do some threading without having an unwieldy number of people in a thread. The mission will fail because Ian G isn't where Ian C was held, but it can fail for other reasons as well. As long as one group makes it there, the others can fall to a hazard on the way (which could include being discovered, which could be a point for any loyal characters to come in).

Ian's idea is to go along, look like he's out for a stroll, happen to come across the location, perhaps pick up something he can use for a weapon. If anyone would like to do anything more complicated, then they can bring it up OOCly or ICly and perhaps we can organise the groups based on what sort of thing people would like to play out.

Bert would certainly help! And he wouldn't be too easy to torture, so it seems unlikely he would be taken.

Eponine will be absolutely desperate to get Ian back! He's her best friend, and she knows all too well what'll happen to him, having been warned to behave herself. Can she come along too?

Would it be possible for Brainy as Lonestar to take a very passive role and maybe sneak them some useful tech to help them do this? (pending mod approval, of course)

The caveat is I can't really have him caught because he's also doing other stuff that he'd get executed for like allying with the rebel hacker but that also means he wouldn't actively be on the mission to be caught and the discovery of the tech would start to make him a target anyway, even though no one would know who he really was.

Giving them a useful doodad like a password cracker or something to bypass a retinal scanner is a nice indirect way he can help though.
