Hello everyone! My name's Waffle, and I'm bringing in a Hunger Games OC, Alastair Stara!

He's a former Victor from District 9, and will be a mentor for that district now. His information can be found here, and the short version is that he acts friendly and charming for the cameras, but it's all an act. A very, very good act. And he may have ulterior motivations for being your friend.

Nothing sinister, I promise. He just wants to keep an eye on things.

Hello Amanda! I... don't actually know much about Attack on Titan except what I've seen my friends reblog on Tumblr so you can guess how good my knowledge is there, but I know a fair more about Homestuck, so yes. Perhaps it is better.

ANYWAY YES LET'S PLOT I am super excited.

Sweet! So Eva won the 37th Hunger Games so she was in her 40's when Alastair won, and generally she's a very serious Mentor. She's used to her District losing so while she does remember every Tribute, she doesn't get too close to them until after they win.

She probably emphasized strategy to him, and tried to stress survival tactics. And after he won, tried to keep him out of being bid on. She's probably very happy to have someone else to help her with D9 (along with Barbara Wilson)! And generally she likes to come across as very aggressive, ruthless and cold regarding the Games, so she probably has tried to nurture that in him even after the Arena itself.

I'd imagine that during training, Alastair would've been in too much of a state of wide-eyed shock to be considered much of a hope for success at first. He was super intimidated by everything and just. Sure he was going to die. But he was very skilled with the weapons he became known for--the scythe especially, but also sickles--he'd just never used them to hurt another person before.

Probably what happened is it seemed like he was too terrified (of the Games and of her) to be learning anything, but he was paying very close attention to everything she taught him, because he did end up using the survival tactics in the beginning, and then after his pivotal moment was highly strategic in how he went after other Tributes.

I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is how much Alastair has changed over the years, personality wise. He started off as a terrified Tribute, came out of the Arena as a sullen and rebellious Victor, and then went through a transition to build the public personality he's put on for the past decade. He probably needed a lot of help after his first Games as a Mentor. That would've been rough. After that he really learned how much he needed to withdraw himself.

I'M TALKING A LOT SORRY but I think Eva might be one of the few people he'd drop the public personality with, because she really did coach him through a lot even if she couldn't protect him from... well. Everything? But he definitely picked up on the attitude toward the Games.

Sounds like we have a good foundation, then. Eva was already kind of Professional Jaded Mentor by then and also knew a lot of the Capitol makers and shakers.

Excellent! I figure that they would certainly have met one another and be at least familiar with one another. Jessica has something of a party girl reputation in the years following her Arena (a vaguely nebulous date roughly 8-10 years ago), and it's fair to assume she definitely would have made a pass at him at some point during that time... if that's ok by you of course!

That is totally fine. Alastair's the sort who likes to know everyone, not necessarily because he actually cares about them (though he's very good at pretending to) but because he just likes to keep track of people and know where they stand. He's also pretty damn good at acting out the whole being a celebrity thing so they've probably been to parties together and she can flirt with him all she wants he might even flirt back but nothing will come of it.
