Where everything's made up and the points...sorta matter.

And actually, a surprise OOC post!

Most of this is just some minor house keeping, and then some not.
  • AC is being increased to 100 points. We don't wanna make AC super high levels, so we're gonna try out 100, but right now our most active are making thousands of points, and that just seems a little ridiculous a gap.
  • Also, we are adding a new way to get points (Suggested by Skidmo) You are now going to also be able to get points by finishing log threads-5 points. Length of thread is not an issue, just that it comes to an IC conclusion.
  • Remember to watch discussions in chat, especially re: sponsor talk. That can go pretty quickly into dubcon/noncon territories (and arguably always is), and should be taken to private conversations, since chat can't really be under cuts/warned for. Just in general make sure to keep the chat open and accessible to all.
  • Also, if you are dropping a character while not in the Arena, and want to do something with them such as with Ariadne, come talk to us! We are happy to work something out, and it can make great plot points. We do have a lot of backstage strings to be pulled, so be sure to clear with us anything besides "They just quietly vanish."

Ok. The last thing and the big thing.

We have been kicking around a canon cap. A few people have brought it up to us, and we wanted to bring it to you guys to vote.

A few things we will not compromise on:

This will ONLY be for Tributes, and only because those spots are limited.
This will NOT go into effect until the next time Tribute apps are opened, so will not effect any current reserves.
NO ONE will be forced to drop to meet the cap. Any canon over the cap will be grandfathered in.
We are considering a "canon" to be a franchise. So, for example our Marvel cast, even though they come from several titles/universes would be one canon.

Votes will be hidden, so you don't need to be worried about what you answer, only mods will see the results. Even if your answer to 1 is no, you should choose an answer to 2.

I left a maybe option, but if you are unsure, please drop any questions and only use that if you really can't decided.

How would the canon cap treat things like DC owned characters? The characters of Smallville don't necessarily overlap the characters of films, comics, tv shows? Would we simply become a blanket DC canon?

Additionally, I understand the reasoning behind this cap (to allow for a more varied tribute pool), but I worry it's going to compound anxieties with the overall tribute cap. Particularly since I play from a crowded canon.

Whoops, sorry about the delete. I saw the clarification on the post before the comment. For the record, everyone who may read, I said I was still confused.

Thank you for clarifying. I assume things that are completely out of the traditional DC hero hierarchy (like Watchmen) will also count against DC.

I voted yes to the canon cap but I wanted to clarify.

I don't think that there needs to be a cap for like "x number of people from Sherlock as tributes" so much as like... since we only open a few tribute spots a time, having a cap on how many can come from one canon when those spots open.

So say if there were 10 new spots, then 3 characters could come from any one canon

just to give all the canons fair game at the tribute spots and keep it diversified, while at the same time not completely killing one canon's chances of bringing any new people into the game

I like this plan. (I voted No, but for an overall cap.)

I said so on plurk but I wanted to say here that I totally also agree with this idea.

I don't like the idea of an overall cap, but a cap per app process might be more reasonable.

I approve of this plan. (I know TLV for example allows three characters from any one canon in a single round.)

...Also, for the record, the not_really_charlie vote was by me, if that's visible. DIDN'T REALIZE WHICH ACCOUNT I WAS IN.

I answered "maybe" above; I'm a big fan of this idea. Unless we suddenly end up with twenty open Tribute slots, rather than the usual four or five, no one cast is ever going to be able to overwhelm the game at once, so an overall canon cap seems like trying to fix a problem we won't ever actually have.

At this point, I really don't think any cap is necessary; as stated below, our large casts aren't having any kind of negative effect on the game. But I like this idea in general, just to ensure some diversity in the apping process without locking anyone out of the game forever.

For me, the need for a canon cap begins when a certain cast and its politics and drama are becoming the center point of the game or are otherwise taking over the plot. As of yet, that has not to happened, and actually, I don't suspect that it will become an issue just because of how linear the plot of this game tends to be. (It should be noted here that linear isn't necessarily a bad thing, I'm just using it to mean that the plot is pretty defined and thus not subject to the whims of one cast or another).

So, that being said, I don't think a cast cap is needed at this time, but I'd like to reserve the right to reevaluate the situation should it become necessary. If it seems that one cast is having more of an impact than another (and not because one cast is simply more active), or otherwise influencing the plot, than it might be cause for reconsideration. However, at this time, I think we're good.

Agreed. I don't think there's a problem and I don't think it's necessary to cap casts at this time.

we aren't in danger of becoming a single-fandom game in all but name only -- far from it. i understand the worries about a single large cast taking over, but i think, SO FAR, it has not been a problem.

i'm not against canon caps in theory, though, so if we need one, we need one -- but i agree with yami. we don't need one.

Given the fact that there are only so many tribute slots open at once, I don't think we're really going to be in any danger of a specific cast being overwhelming unless all the tribute slots end up going to one cast and I don't really see that happening.
