A Date with Lady Luck

As mentioned previously, I've been working on a plot for rebellion minded characters involving Wyatt hosting cycle-y poker games. With help from The Mods I've been trying to figure out the best way to make these games work and I think I've more or less now got the bare bones down.

And with that, I have posted a test drive meme over at Wyatt's journal. I would really love and appreciate some folks popping by so I can see where problems might crop up and fix them before I actually attempt this in game.



My plan, thus far, is have an ooc sign up for people who are interested and Wyatt will-icly invite them out. Four characters will get to play against him (and each other) and everyone else can just treat the post as a mini-non-Capitol-party.

First four people willing to test the card game reply here so I can draw your cards and set up tagging order. I'll PM everyone's cards to their characters' accounts so everyone can play truly blind. Just for extra funsies. :) (I will do multiple card games for this testing post if there a bunch who like to play. Just let me know and I can add a round or two.)

I've decided I'll place the cards beneath the cut so if people want to truly play blind (not knowing what others have for their facedown card, they can do so):

Maximus' cards have been sent to his account. I decided to PM cards to the players so folks can play blind, that is to say not knowing what the others characters hole card is.

Also? Maybe a hole in the system based on the way you're doing it? Can that generator keep track of what cards have already been dealt? because like, Danny discards two, and then magically one of the cards he discarded ends up in say, Maximus' hand... yeeeah.

For the sake of this particular game (5 Stud Poker), there's no discards. As for future games, thus far I haven't found a discard feature on the random generator, but I have copied and pasted all the cards already drawn down into a word doc. (since I have to draw them all at once to avoid repeats), so I could in theory draw for discards as the need arose.

Edit: Also, I have PM'd Danny's cards to him.

Can we like, RP that we discarded and like that's what we ended up with at the end? Mostly because what you discard can be fodder for bluffing and whatnot.

lol, in general? and I spaced and forgot this was stud rather than draw... we always played draw in my house. heh. Re-reading the rules because it's sorta fuzzy.

Lol, that's okay. I went with Stud because it's a bit easier for anyone who might never have played and easier to handle on the technical rping end (drawing the cards and tagging order, etc).

But, I would say, yes. If we ever move up to a draw style game, discards would be allowed. You character would just say they wanted to discard, how many, and I would draw new cards, check them against my list to make sure another character didn't already have them, and Wyatt would then ic-ly pass them along.

and according to the entry, it's something they played a lot in the saloons... so it'd be a slice of home for Wyatt. It just works all around. :-D

And another that would be fairly easy to RP? Would be Texas Hold'em... after they get it established and like, the modern people (Danny, Sherlock, even) can teach it to Wyatt... he'd pick it up pretty quick. LOL

Yes! This may or may be something I was secretly hoping could happen eventually. Broaden his card-playing horizons! Hold'em is what we play at my house. :D

Useless history info I'm sure you already know, both Wyatt and Doc Holiday ran a faro game in Tombstone for extra cash. :-D

It's partly to help peg out rebellion inclined people, working under the assumption these are people Wyatt has met and thinks might be good, or that Elias has watched and think might be good and has passed along their names to Wyatt... and the games are a cover for Wyatt finding out more about them/their characters.

And also, he just likes to play cards and wants people to play with.

Ohh, okay. Well, Ariadne here is already invested in the rebellion thanks to Elias, but if Wyatt invited her out for poker, she'd probably do it. Or hang around, if nothing else. I don't know how well she knows the game, but she's got a wicked poker face to her. Give her a couple rounds to watch, and she could probably figure it out quickly enough.

Lol, yes. A bit more involved, and obviously something I've never played, but something that Wyatt would know and be willing to play.

Maybe somewhere down the line if he's got some extra time on his hands he can try. XD

Well, it's also set up as a party post, for anyone who might be in the area and interested in watching. So Ariadne could definitely come in, watch, and ask to play. Wyatt doesn't know she's involved at this time, so he could take it as a chance to find out... and once he does she could help him eyeball whoever's else at the table.

Also he's not above inviting friends just for the hell of it, especially if he doesn't have any "leads" to go on at the time.

Perf. She'll definitely be there, then. She'll totally help him scope people out once he knows she's in on it. (She's sort of taken to wearing really well hidden Mockingjay jewellery on her person at parties / dates.)

The idea is I want to be able to involve as people as we can, even if they're not playing in the game with Wyatt. They can hang out in the general Speakeasy atmosphere. It is open bar after all, so they can watch, talk among themselves, ignore the game completely, whatever.

And really, he's not tapping anyone himself. He's just asking nondescript "how do you like the Capitol so far" type questions to find out what makes them tick. If he thinks it might be someone who would fit with the rebellion, he'll pass them on to Elias/or Ariadne or whoever in the know that he feels comfortable going to.

Mm, okay. That sounds like a pretty rad plan. Figuring out who would actually work for the cause, but not having to worry about telling them things himself sort of thing. Works nicely. Yes, I like this.

Lol, not he wouldn't be willing. Elias told him to just watch people, find people, and to report to him if he encountered anyone he thought be worthy. So that's what Wyatt's doing. A man of his word and what not. XD
