Altair should be caught in a hidden trap then, because he is obnoxiously good at outrunning people otherwise. He may still escape it, but it will have slowed him down enough for Alain to try searching for him. Altair wouldn't surrender to someone trying to kill him, but he may try to talk Alain out of it.
