Arena 13

Code Name: Ice Age
Size: 16 square miles
Special Areas: Glacial Lake, The Forests, The Caves, The Meadows, The Mountains, The River, The Bog
Opening Date: January 23rd

If this Arena seems a little old school, that’s because it is. This arena seems massive and expanding, with lots of open space to run and hide and disappear into. Tributes will emerge from their tubes into a lush green meadow of waist-high grasses. The Cornucopia is situated at the center of the meadow, with backpacks hidden in the grasses and within the horn itself. In the backpacks there will be various foodstuffs, first aid supplies, all-weather gear, and weapons. The larger weapon-prizes will be waiting at the center of the Cornucopia.

Beyond the meadow is the treeline of thick pine trees which surrounds the meadow on all sides. These trees are not so great for climbing, but they'll provide cover if you need to run and their boughs are good for shelter. Some parts of the forest seem to extend further than others. Indeed, if one heads east from the meadow, one will soon find a wide river. The water there is potable, but extremely cold, and there are fish swimming in it. On the other side of the river, the trees give way to rocky hills of shale which jut up into impressive, impassable mountains. The south of the mountains consists of shale hills, which then lead to a series of dark, deep, explorable caves. To the north of the mountains, along the path of the river is a cold, crisp glacial lake. The glacier itself has receded a bit, but is still visible from the shores of the lake, which is surrounded on three sides by mountains.

If one heads south from the Cornucopia meadow, one will encounter trees upon unending trees, until eventually reaching a small pond which turns to marshland. The water in this area is not so good, and the marsh itself will upon closer inspection, reveal itself to be a peat bog. It's a quiet area, devoid of animal life save the aggressive geese which populate the pond and tons of bloodthirsty insects. The marsh itself has a frightening, deathlike quality. If one dares to explore, one might even find long lost corpses within it.
Just north of the marshland is a grassland area, where small game seem to congregate to graze. It's surrounded on all sides by tree, but this is a birch forest, which is easier to climb. If one wanders the birch forest, eventually the wildflower field will come into view. This picturesque scene is home of lush wildflowers of every hue, but be careful! These genetically engineered plants could "potentially" be toxic!

North of the cornucopia, through the pine forest, is situated the largest field in the Arena. This massive plain is home to great migrating herds of animals. If one has the skill and the supplies, picking off a beast or two for meat shouldn't be a problem, but be cautious: these herd animals are dangerous in large numbers.

Immediate Hazards:

The Weather

The theme of this arena is the ice age. Week one will begin with moderate, if somewhat chilly weather, and slowly over the course of the arena, the weather will shift into a frozen wasteland. Death by exposure is a real and possible danger in this arena, and by the finale, you can expect that the entire arena will have transformed into an icy wasteland. Shelter is a necessity in this arena. Without shelter, you won’t last long.

The Animals

The wildlife in the arena seems harmless at first. There are typical animals, such as rabbits, geese, buffalo, deer, birds, and fish, many of which can be easily caught and consumed. However, about two-three weeks in, the animals will take on strange and frightening appearances. Gone are the adorable little deers. In their place are mammoths, giant sloths, and sabertooth cats. Not only are these animals massive, but some of them will hunt and try to eat the Tributes.

The Plantlife

Much of the plant life in the arena is highly poisonous, including the wildflowers and many of the berries which can be found throughout. Of course, there will be edible plants mixed in, just to mess with you. There’s also poison ivy, poison oak, and other icky plants throughout.

Attire:

All Tributes will wear identical uniforms consisting of long underwear, thick athletic socks, Ugg boots, a lightweight one-piece outfit, and a windbreaker. The windbreakers will have their District insignia embroidered on it. All Tributes will be allowed to wear their token into the arena.

Cornucopia Prizes:

There are 25 watertight backpacks of supplies throughout the cornucopia. If you choose to run for the cornucopia, you will be rolled to either live or die. There is a 20% chance of death, however if you choose to run for the cornucopia, your name is excluded from the deathroll until it is your week to be rolled. Those who do not run for the cornucopia will be included in every death roll.

Those who live will be assigned one of the 25 backpacks with contents unknown. There is also a stash of random supplies at the Cornucopia. The Cornucopia of this arena may very well be your best and only source of food that won't poison you or fight back, but we've definitely tried to make it worth your while:

Oh GOOD idea. Joly does have the tendency to eat things he shouldn't in arenas!

aw yeah an arena where his survival skills will actually be useful

Sam is probably going set up some kind of home base again, likely with the Avengers because his caution about seeming too close with them goes out the window in the arena. He's also going to be looking for close CR and trying to keep an eye on them.

Other than those basic things Iiii have no real plans for him? He's available for rescues and team ups and fights and I'd also be down with having him rescued a time or two if someone wants their character in on that!

He's got fantastic training in being able to survive in super shitty conditions with not a lot, so if anyone wants/needs survival tips or something?

Grantaire is growing increasingly skeptical about the suitability of a barricade. How many has Courfeyrac died in now?

Fee actually does have a clue about the basics of outdoor survival, though her experience was in a fantasy realm and not in a freezing landscape. She's an experienced hunter too, the protege of Artemis, so taking down animals is pretty easy for her. She doesn't even actually need a weapon to subdue smaller hoofed game like deer, so luckily she'll have food to share and/or trade if it comes to it.

Mostly, I'd like for her to stray into survival goddess mode a bit and let lose away from civilization. Maybe form an alliance with others of the ranger-y type persuasion. That'd do her some good, I think!

Do you want her and Tom to hook up and power couple again? Tom's advantage here is going to be that he knows all the plants.

Davesprite will be going for the cornucopia, but provided that he lives, he and Megan should hang out again. Solidarity in frozen wings and basically trying to not die.

Oh, hell yes. Come for the team-up to take something big down, stay for cooking the meat and swapping tales?

I'm absolutely golden for them to scuffle when they first meet, he'll probably just brush Ragnar off and then lash out at him at first. I am also okay with him potentially killing him when the time comes around. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW???

[personal profile] sizeofyourbaggage 2015-01-17 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man I want a team up so bad.

Can they fight a mammoth or a sabretooth tiger?
hersir: (➡ I don't know the way)

[personal profile] hersir 2015-01-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Can they take down a T I G E R, because that would absolutely amazing. They can skin it, cook it and then share their stories and be amazing manly men men men.

Feferi Peixes

[personal profile] fintastic 2015-01-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Feferi will be doing a lot of fishing, punching geese, and trying to stay warm! I don't have any major plans with her yet, but I'd like for her to meet new people and make some new allies, since she's lost a lot recently.
drinkupmehearties: (I can name fingers and point names)

Jack Sparrow

[personal profile] drinkupmehearties 2015-01-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Jack is so incredibly unused to the cold because hahahah the hot Caribbean is his natural habitat and this sucks. Otherwise he'll do his best to stay away from all you insane, murderous people and will hide. I can see him eventually camping out around the pine trees near the meadow/river and avoiding the mammoths like the plague. Being harassed by geese will most likely be a Thing too.

If someone corners him, Jack will defend himself. Otherwise, if someone proves to be helpful or friendly, he'll most likely try to help back. I'm really up for anything!

Loki, Charles, & Thane

[personal profile] onedirectiony 2015-01-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm totally up for most things this arena.

Loki is going for the Cornucopia. We'll see how this goes, and it may change SOME plotting, but overall, I'm looking to have him run about. This arena is great for him. He likes the cold and is going to have a grand old time. He's still working out how much actual...killing/damage he wants to do, but I'm glad to have him team up, get into silly fights, and do general pranking things.

Charles is not built for this, but he's definitely up for helping anyone he comes across if they do not seem awful. He's not particularly trusting, but he's also not about to let people suffer in front of him. In other words, I prefer not-fight CR with him at the start of the arena.

Thane is going to hate this arena (brrr), but he'll be lurking about. If anyone would like to meet up with him - just tell me ;)

Yesss, staged cuteness sounds great. Keep Dave warm with your body... heat... damn it.

I have no idea either but I will think on it.
hersir: (➡ we won't be broken)

Oh hey.

Wanna meet up this time and not kill each other?

[personal profile] smirkwood 2015-01-17 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
New here, so I might be asking something dumb. Wondering about poisoned berries.

1) Will the be the instant death type of berries, or does it vary by amount you eat?

2) What about the plant life in general? Would some look suspicious or is everything just a crapshoot?

Loki wants to see Thor, so they will have to have a moment. I'm fine with that being a fight or Thor giving him a black eye or something (bc Loki would totally be up for making his brother feel like crap about it later :3)
celebrityskinned: (Basic - Thoughtful)

Black Tom and Venus

[personal profile] celebrityskinned 2015-01-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I have no set plans for either of these two! Venus will be looking for her allies but I plan on having her go it alone for the first week or so. She's up for killing if you're on her shitlist.

Tom will go after just about anyone but Molotov, so if you need conflict he's your man. He's pissed as hell that there's a depowered nature Arena after he did a whole Arena where his powers were useless, but he's got a lot of plant knowledge so should be able to be useful there...for a price.
smirkwood: (♛ aphado nin!)

Thranduil

[personal profile] smirkwood 2015-01-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Just FYI - if you are clearly mortal, and attack first, Thranduil will typically have no problems trying to kill you ALSO IF YOU ARE A DRAGON...either that or he'll pee his pants.

He will attempt to be the leader of the group, and may have a bad attitude.

Strengths for this arena: He can live off the land if he must, and he's a decent fighter if he has a weapon. Climbing trees is something he'd be better at than most.

Weaknesses: Elves usually don't feel cold, so this will be a new experience. If you get him in the boggy marsh, he will probably have flashbacks and other emotionally compromising feels.
