Arena 13

Code Name: Ice Age
Size: 16 square miles
Special Areas: Glacial Lake, The Forests, The Caves, The Meadows, The Mountains, The River, The Bog
Opening Date: January 23rd

If this Arena seems a little old school, that’s because it is. This arena seems massive and expanding, with lots of open space to run and hide and disappear into. Tributes will emerge from their tubes into a lush green meadow of waist-high grasses. The Cornucopia is situated at the center of the meadow, with backpacks hidden in the grasses and within the horn itself. In the backpacks there will be various foodstuffs, first aid supplies, all-weather gear, and weapons. The larger weapon-prizes will be waiting at the center of the Cornucopia.

Beyond the meadow is the treeline of thick pine trees which surrounds the meadow on all sides. These trees are not so great for climbing, but they'll provide cover if you need to run and their boughs are good for shelter. Some parts of the forest seem to extend further than others. Indeed, if one heads east from the meadow, one will soon find a wide river. The water there is potable, but extremely cold, and there are fish swimming in it. On the other side of the river, the trees give way to rocky hills of shale which jut up into impressive, impassable mountains. The south of the mountains consists of shale hills, which then lead to a series of dark, deep, explorable caves. To the north of the mountains, along the path of the river is a cold, crisp glacial lake. The glacier itself has receded a bit, but is still visible from the shores of the lake, which is surrounded on three sides by mountains.

If one heads south from the Cornucopia meadow, one will encounter trees upon unending trees, until eventually reaching a small pond which turns to marshland. The water in this area is not so good, and the marsh itself will upon closer inspection, reveal itself to be a peat bog. It's a quiet area, devoid of animal life save the aggressive geese which populate the pond and tons of bloodthirsty insects. The marsh itself has a frightening, deathlike quality. If one dares to explore, one might even find long lost corpses within it.
Just north of the marshland is a grassland area, where small game seem to congregate to graze. It's surrounded on all sides by tree, but this is a birch forest, which is easier to climb. If one wanders the birch forest, eventually the wildflower field will come into view. This picturesque scene is home of lush wildflowers of every hue, but be careful! These genetically engineered plants could "potentially" be toxic!

North of the cornucopia, through the pine forest, is situated the largest field in the Arena. This massive plain is home to great migrating herds of animals. If one has the skill and the supplies, picking off a beast or two for meat shouldn't be a problem, but be cautious: these herd animals are dangerous in large numbers.

Immediate Hazards:

The Weather

The theme of this arena is the ice age. Week one will begin with moderate, if somewhat chilly weather, and slowly over the course of the arena, the weather will shift into a frozen wasteland. Death by exposure is a real and possible danger in this arena, and by the finale, you can expect that the entire arena will have transformed into an icy wasteland. Shelter is a necessity in this arena. Without shelter, you won’t last long.

The Animals

The wildlife in the arena seems harmless at first. There are typical animals, such as rabbits, geese, buffalo, deer, birds, and fish, many of which can be easily caught and consumed. However, about two-three weeks in, the animals will take on strange and frightening appearances. Gone are the adorable little deers. In their place are mammoths, giant sloths, and sabertooth cats. Not only are these animals massive, but some of them will hunt and try to eat the Tributes.

The Plantlife

Much of the plant life in the arena is highly poisonous, including the wildflowers and many of the berries which can be found throughout. Of course, there will be edible plants mixed in, just to mess with you. There’s also poison ivy, poison oak, and other icky plants throughout.

Attire:

All Tributes will wear identical uniforms consisting of long underwear, thick athletic socks, Ugg boots, a lightweight one-piece outfit, and a windbreaker. The windbreakers will have their District insignia embroidered on it. All Tributes will be allowed to wear their token into the arena.

Cornucopia Prizes:

There are 25 watertight backpacks of supplies throughout the cornucopia. If you choose to run for the cornucopia, you will be rolled to either live or die. There is a 20% chance of death, however if you choose to run for the cornucopia, your name is excluded from the deathroll until it is your week to be rolled. Those who do not run for the cornucopia will be included in every death roll.

Those who live will be assigned one of the 25 backpacks with contents unknown. There is also a stash of random supplies at the Cornucopia. The Cornucopia of this arena may very well be your best and only source of food that won't poison you or fight back, but we've definitely tried to make it worth your while:

Thorin

[personal profile] takingback 2015-01-17 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What a good arena for a Middle-earth character this is. Thorin has spent many years traversing in the wilderness and surviving with what he could find, so this will be just another Tuesday for him. ASIDE FROM THE MAMMOTHS and other nice things like that.

This will be his first arena so I'm pretty much open to everything! He's not the friendliest type, but not outright hostile either, and will most likely avoid outright fighting anyone unless he gets attacked first. Or someone attacks the hobbits, since he'll be aggressively protecting them oops.

Things that could happen:
- caves caves are great for camping out in
- hunting for food, making makeshift hammers, TREE BRANCHES AS SHIELDS?? what a good opportunity. he'll also be willing to give people food if they have something to give him in return. or if they look particularly pitiful he's not made of stone you know.
- help him fight against a beast of some sort
- fight him that also works

In general I really want all the things, with both old and new CR so hit me upppp

BETH:
- I really want her to kill someone, somehow. Especially since I just canon updated her to a new and improved ~dark and gritty canon point.
- Otherwise, she's gonna be sticking with her family (Daryl and Rick) like glue, assuming they all survive the cornucopia. But it'll be easy to just handwave them getting separated, or Beth being out foraging for food, good stuff like that.

NATASHA:
- SAM AND NAT ARE GONNA KILL A MAMMOTH and bring the meat back to the avengers base, wherever that is. They're probably going to help anyone who needs some food, that's just what they do
- also, nat will probably use the poison plants to coat her weapons in poison because woah, double effectiveness she's efficient like that.
- this cold is nothing. mother russia is calling her.

COLE:
- is gonna make snow angels okay he's a real boy now he's doing something real boys do. someone please teach him how to make snow angels
- that's really it those are my plans HIT ME.

Gary Epps

[personal profile] a_minute_younger 2015-01-17 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Gary is going for the Cornucopia and is terribly equipped for wilderness survival, so chances are, he's not going to last long. BUT IN THE EVENT THAT HE DOES, I have a few things in mind that I'd like to try:

-- Have Gary actually get into a physical confrontation with someone (death not required). He'll be struggling at this point with the idea that he should be actively hunting people, for Capitol appeal, but that involves hunting people and he is not ready for that on a practical or psychological level. So some kind of awkward, really ineffective ambush or something might be fun--or self-defense from an incoming attack always works! I'm open to injury always, death if parties involved have been rolled or are willing.

-- Eat some berries and regret everything, because he will totally do it. Attempting to barter with aggressive people with said berries would be a hilarious bonus.

-- Hunt a big thing with a group of people and be really bad at it. I mean, the hunting part itself; probably the best thing Gary is good for there is to be a distraction (which I am totally down for). He'll be desperate enough for protein a few weeks in to seek out hunting parties for this.

-- Continue pestering helping District 9 Tributes, as per Harley's orders. Last Arena it was with cake, this Arena it might be promises of finding shelter or warmth or fresh water or something. Or just pleasant company. IDK Gary is not very helpful. If this backfires on him, all the better.

-- Establish an actual traveling group and stick to it. Or, at least attempt to stick to it. Gary is easily distracted and could get separated from a group within hours of finding one, even though he likes company and will support the idea of traveling in a group, just because he wanders off somewhere and gets lost. He is so poorly equipped for this.

I'LL HIT PEOPLE UP ABOUT MORE SPECIFIC PLOTTING THINGS. SOON. Still up in the air because Cornucopia, as always, but I am excited and will take ideas!

[personal profile] tevintage 2015-01-17 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
HALLO yeah I am not sure what to do with that - especially since the crowning isn't for a week... maybe we should just go ahead and have the meeting now

I really want Cass to hunt a mammoth at some point with other fighters. Think we could work out a team up?
alwaysshielded: (Default)

[personal profile] alwaysshielded 2015-01-17 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I should clearly check my own thread before going into other people's, but yes. I would love to expand on their interactions. Getting into a quick fight at the Cornucopia and (assuming they both survive) later teaming up for some big game hunting or the like would be fantastic.

[personal profile] alwaysshielded 2015-01-17 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That may be the better plan.

Also Dorian don't you dare die in the first five minutes. If half the DA cast gets wiped at the Cornucopia I will laugh.

Cole will then learn about the dangers of hypothermia like a real boy...

But they should have their religion talk. And also as an assassin do you think he'd know anything about making poisons?

Re: Arya Stark

[personal profile] alwaysshielded 2015-01-17 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I want more things. Whether Arya hanging with the DA cast for a bit or them at least running into each other while scouting.

Also, would you be down for saying she and Cass did some training in the downtime between their meeting and the arena?

Josie can be the official DA cave sitter/whatever other shelter they find. Everyone hunts and when they come back somehow she has tastefully decorated it.

I'm pretty sure he should! I never use poisons/traps in my playthroughs because i'm a filthy casual, but I'm p sure it's part of a regular rogue skillset

WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING......

I really love the CR he has with Thorin so far I'd love to keep with that! since Dorian provided him with information upon arrival, Thorin will want to repay the "favour" as he sees it, so shenanigans? Let the dwarf help you, Dorian.
tevintage: (Default)

[personal profile] tevintage 2015-01-17 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. I am SO up for shenanigans, you have no idea. He's going to be absolutely miserable without his magic and how cold it is

also thranduil kind of hates his guts, woops, so that could be a thing 8D

I've been sparkling at Jack ever since his intro and I'd love for some CR with him! Thorin will go hunting around the forest so they could run into each other? Go ??? at mammoths together?? Run away from murderous geese???

Re: Aang and Bruce Banner

I do not have anything specific in mind just yet, but I'd love Cass and Bruce running into each other again.

I really like the CR they have so far, and I'd love to expand on that! So if they run into each other I'd love to do something with them! Thorin would definitely aid her if he sees her.

Re: Rick

[personal profile] alwaysshielded 2015-01-17 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Cassandra coming slightly too close to Rick's group while she's scouting? Arguments that happen because being nice is hard is kind of Cassandra's specialty.
