I am absolutely down with them teaming up in some capacity during their time in the arena, if everything works out! I'm not sure how upset or not upset Haruto will still be with Gary after their current thread, but he's still going to want to make sure nothing incredibly awful happens to the guy, if he can help it.

I'm also waiting for more info from the mods, though it does look like he'll be able to transform and throw some power around, so he'll be feeling a lot more like he outranks Gary in overall competence and survivability. This might call for Gary bailing his behind out of some trouble when he finally gets low on mana? :D
