Tokens & Scores
Following the end of Arena 12, the Capitol will be introducing a new head Gamemaker in advance of Arena 13. Plutarch Heavensbee will be formally revealed as the new boss following the finale of Arena 12 next month, and he's got some new-old ideas about how to run the Arenas. Plutarch will emphasize a return to form for the Games, a restoration of the old ways and the Games of the past.
First on his to-do list is a new scoring template and the mandatory rescoring of all Tributes and past-Victors. With so many Tributes to rescore, the process will begin during Week 2 of Arena 12, allowing all resurrected Tributes to have individual sessions with the Gamemakers. They will be given the opportunity to present a talent, physical ability, impress with their mental capacity, etc. These sessions are private, with an individual Tribute and the Gamemakers. Afterward, they will sit down for a one-on-one interview with legendary host Caesar Flickerman for an interview for sponsors. An interview montage will be prepared from the responses and will air before Arena 13.
Additionally, all Tributes will be given the opportunity to receive a token to carry with them in Arena 13 as a personal memento or symbol. This item can be anything from a piece of jewelry to a family photo, as precious as a gemstone or as innocuous as a slinky and anywhere in between. If this is a weapon or something else that gives an unfair advantage, it won't be allowed, but the Tribute's stylist team will make sure the Tribute gets a pin with a symbol of their weapon on it. Pins are all the rage right now. This token can be changed at will later so don't worry too much about it if you can't think of anything. Upon resurrection in the Capitol, those Tributes who select a token from their homeworld will find it's been brought in for them and will be waiting in their room. If your character chooses something from Panem instead, that's fine too.
Participation in this is required for all Tribute and Victor characters. Because it may take awhile to get everyone taken care of, you will have until January 15th, 2015 to complete these forms.

What skill will your character demonstrate for the Gamemakers?: A brief description of their demonstration. This does not need to be a full IC sample, something simple will suffice, such as Mary did gymnastics and then strangled a dummy with her bare hands will do.
Does this accurately reflect their abilities in the arena?: Yes/No/Explain.
What would you score your character, based on the new criteria and why?: List skills, powers, training, anything that might be useful along with the score. A simple number will not suffice for this.
Is there anything else we should know?: Explain as needed. If your character has physical or mental limitations, anxiety or phobias, is elderly, etc. please note that here. Likewise, if they are extremely well suited to an Arena setting, or if they are not equipped for the Tribute life, we need to know that as well. If they are a skilled inventor, have healing skills, know how to do electrical work, or are an escape artist, please note that here.

1-2: These Tributes have no specific skill that makes them extraordinary, just ordinary people unsuited at all to the environment of the Hunger Games. Average strength and mental acuity fit here, along with the unskilled, the elderly, and actual children. Examples: Phillip J. Fry from Futurama, Rose DeWitt Bukater from Titanic.
3-4: These Tributes have common sense at least, maybe some Boy/Girl Scout level survival training or took a youth group class in karate as a kid. These Tributes have maybe one shining skill that could be useful in some Arenas - botanical knowledge, how to fish or hunt game, etc - but only really one and they seem at a loss with others. Clever but physically weaker characters would go on the high end of this spectrum or the low end of the next depending on what they have to offer. Examples: Primrose Everdeen from The Hunger Games series, Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series.
5-6: Tributes who have some small amount of training but have never seen real combat or who had professions or hobbies that can easily be adapted to a violent scenario (martial arts for the purpose of exercise, as an example) but may not have the mental preparation for actual deadly altercationsno matter how much they may think they do. Examples: Chibi-Usa from Sailormoon, Shinra Kishitani from Durarara!!.
7-8: Tributes that have seen legitimate fights, even maybe taken a life before. These Tributes have multiple skills that could be helpful in many different types of Arenas, even if they're not an expert, or they're simply in this range because of peak physical prowess. Some may have actual military training to draw on but in general these Tributes are not trained killers of other people even if they have killed. Hunters or apocalypse survivors should go at the high end of this spectrum or the low end of the next. Tributes who have defensive abilities that cannot be suppressed (physically stronger, pierce resistant skin as a random example) would go here if they don't have anything to qualify them for a higher score. Examples: Hiro Yamada from Big Hero Six, Peter Parker from Spider-Man.
9-10: Formally or informally trained soldiers, killers, or survivors with some experience. Everyone from 9 on up has likely taken at least one life either in self defense or intentionally at some point with few exceptions, and they have the potential to do so again if necessary even if they're reticent to do so based on personal morality or other reasons. Genius level intellect and creativity also fits here if even if their physical prowess would put them at a lower score. Examples: Francis from Left 4 Dead, Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly.
11-12: Tributes who are either trained soldiers, killers, or survivors. Superheroes who have seen legitimate battle and could handle (maybe not well but well enough) both the mental and physical sides of what that means even without their powers, trained assassins with reputations, etc. These Tributes are the sort that if they want to win, the Gamemakers would have to actually intervene to try and keep them from it because where competition is concerned, they have an undeniable edge. 12s are reserved only for characters who have some sort of non-suppressible offensive power that gives them a boost and other skills that put them in the 10-11 range anyway. Examples: Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy, Ezio Auditore from the Assassin's Creed series.
Characters who are supremely likable to an audience would be bumped up a notch and those who come across as distasteful to an audience would be busted down. This is generally a judgement of "salability" of a Tribute in terms of media attention, but if a Tribute looks as if they will cause serious trouble for the Capitol, their score may be artificially inflated to make them a greater target for other Tributes in the Arena.

Why is this happening?
- After almost 3 years and a complete mod changeover, we've felt that some scores are no longer accurate, especially when compared to other current characters in the game. We've also only ever had one character scored lower than a 4, so it made sense to shift all scores down rather than waste scores of 1, 2, or 3.
Does my character's score need to change?
- Not necessarily. If your character's current score fits within the parameters, their score needn't change, however you must still complete this form.
My character has no "formal training" but they have other cool skills and are likable. How should I score them?
- Use the guidelines explained above to help you, and if you're really not sure, you're welcome to put a range of scores that seems accurate.
How do the Gamemakers determine the score?
- We go off what you tell us and compare that to characters of a similar skill set, physical ability, and mental capacity, as well as general suitability to an Arena environment. Combat training and physical strength will give someone an edge over a character who is very charismatic but lacks survival skills, for example. Physical, emotional, or mental limitations are also a factor. A character with chronic physical or mental illness, extreme phobias, or anxiety issues may get bumped down a notch. These factors will be considered on a case by case basis.
Are powers a factor in scoring?
- No, in fact having powers may actually hinder your character. A character who has fought with super strength for years may find it difficult to fight without them, whereas a character without powers has never had to rely on them and would not need to adjust.
How will this affect death rolls?
- Numbers are rolled in pairs: 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, and 11 & 12. During a six week arena, all 1 & 2 scores get rolled in week one, along with all characters who did not run for the Cornucopia. In week two, all 1, 2, 3, and 4 scores get rolled, plus all characters who didn't run for the Cornucopia, and so on. This rule has not been modified in any way.
My character has been in 7 arenas. Does this count for something?
- Yes and no. If your character has improved emotionally or mentally, then this is something that can factor in. In game physical improvements are not a factor and have never been considered, as each character's body is reset to their pull point whenever they die in an Arena.
Why do Victors need to participate?
- You never know who might get reaped.
I'm planning on apping in a new character before Arena 13. Which guidelines should I use to score my character?
- The new ones.
How will I know my new score?
- The Gamemakers will reply to you here with your new score.
Is this assessment IC or OOC? Do I need to write out new samples?
- There's no need to write new samples. The assessment can be done OOCly in simple descriptions. Example: Bob will demonstrate his swordplay skills against a practice dummy, then camouflage himself to look like a tree. Fill out the form OOCly where indicated and ICly where indicated and you're good to go.
